Books

I'm reading this book called Nickel and Dimed; this really makes me appreciate my job a little more. This lady works at almost minimum wage and tries to see if she can live on it, which she barely can.

It's sad in a way that people are forced to work these types of jobs, but the people that do usually have no skills, just came into the country or have criminal records.
It's a shame how people are exploited, but if you have no skills what can you really do?

Dream weaver

Maybe I'm a huge nerd, but I think the whole dreamweaver program is cool. I don't think i'm ready to make a Web site yet, but hopefully by the time class is over i'll have a running start.
I want to create a Web site where I can post all of my writings. Who knows, maybe someone important will bump into it and give a book deal....ok i can dream right?

Stress

I really think main source of my writers block is stress. It’s this time of the semester where the days get longer, school gets harder, work becomes a burden, the light at the end of the tunnel becomes a little less illuminated. Anyway, in traditional Mick Foley tradition it’ll keep tugging along until the day finally comes when I’m finished with school, well at least until I decide to get my masters….maybe.

Writers Block

I have a nice case of writers block. I planned to write a cute little feature about how i don't wear pants in the my house, but I've got nothing. It's like the pitcher who has no heat on his fast ball and no drop in his curve. He just kind of shuffles his feet on the mound and prays to get through five innings without giving up a ton of runs.

Anyway, That's how i feel.

I wrote this news story Wednesday and I thought it was great, until I was told I spelled Arena-Area, which wouldn't be to bad if i didn't use it six times. Man, i should proofread better before I turn work in.

Crunch Time

Crunch time is upon us, Mid-terms are here. This semester seems to be flying by, which is a good thing. For the most part I really like most of my classes (knock on wood), but I'm anxious to get this year finished and move on.

I'm taking one summer class, mostly because it's all out of pocket; no scholarship or other help from the school. Only ten classes shy of graduating, so close, yet so far.

Doing Laundry

Doing laundry at the Laundromat is a good study of people. Right now I’m watching this guy hit on a girl half his age, I almost feel sorry for him, well I might if he wasn’t dumb enough to make attempt to pick up a girl half his age. Seriously, he’s talking to her about how he just bought a house and how rich he is, dude if you’re so wealthy; why are you in doing laundry in a Laundromat? Maybe he just likes to pick up women here, classy guy.

It’s funny how people just leave their clothes in the machines for hours at a time. I dunno, I just think it’s wrong to take up a machine for a significant period of time while others are waiting to use it. Besides, how do they know people aren’t taking their clothes? Some people spend a nice sum of money on their clothes; why leave them around? Maybe that’s what the creepy guy does when there are no women to hit on.

I guess I’m just untrustworthy, granted, and anyone that has seen the way I dress can attest to this, I don’t spend a lot of money on clothing, but I still want to keep the clothes I have.

Man I’m thirsty; I wish I would have brought some water.

Role of a campus newspaper

Finally the first issue is out, I hope it meets good reviews and praise, but I’m prepared for the worst. Right now it’s a small paper, so coverage is sparse. I hope everyone understands that.

Anytime you publish a newspaper for mass-distribution it will always be met with praise and negativity. Some will bash it some will like it, it just depends.

Not that I’m against people offering criticism, I just hate it when people say the newspaper sucks when they offer no suggestions on how to improve it. I had that happen a lot at my old school.

People would send us e-mails saying they hated the newspaper and we were “softballing” the administration. Then we’d do full-scale investigations and people would say we were being too hard on the school and we should only publish good, happy news. Sorry guys we’re the press not P.R. we published fair and accurate news.

The reality is we did both, when the school did something good we praised them and when they messed up we would fairly criticize them. That’s the role of a newspaper, at least the way I see it.

People should do the same with us; praise us when we do well and criticize when we don't.

The Reality

She stood there alone, tears rolling down her round face, exposing her age lines, her sliver white hair, fluffed in a little ball. She wore an old t-shirt, faded black athletic shorts and shoes with no socks.

It was 2:30 in the morning and the old lady stood there, outside of intensive care unit hoping for a miracle. I wanted to comfort her and tell her it would be alright, but who the hell am I to say that? I have no idea what she is going through. Maybe it wouldn't be alright. Instead I said nothing and continued to deliver supplies.

I sure later some religious person will tell her God has a plan and God heals all, but where in the hell was God on that dark lonely night? Doctors tried in vain to make his heart beat again. The dying patient was her son.

That was depressing. Here's link to the new Simpsons Movie trailer.

Dan Sonderman announces second week of Dan

For immediate release:

Dan Sonderman announces second week of Dan

The second week of Dan has been announced for spring break, March 24-30. Lindenwood Senior Dan Sonderman will spend spring break doing absolutely nothing. The week of Dan is a spin-off Seinfeld’s “The summer of George” where character George Costanza quits his job and decides to spend the summer doing nothing.

According to Sonderman, the first week of Dan, two years ago, was huge success.

“I sat around and played video games,” he said. “It was great, no deadlines or papers due, just great.”
For this week of Dan, Sonderman plans to spend his time writing, sleeping, reading and other activities.

“I should pick up some extra hours at work,” he said. “But, that kind of defeats the purpose. I want to remain as unproductive as possible.

Sonderman will still have to work a couple of shifts, but he remains optimistic.
“What can you do,” he said. “At least I won’t have to study or anything."
